Smithtown Attorney

The Town of Smithtown is one of ten towns in Suffolk County, New York. It is located on the north shore of Long Island and as of the 2000 census, had a population of 115,715. The town was first settled around 1665. According to legend, after rescuing a Native American Chief's kidnapped daughter, Richard Smith was told that the Chief would grant title to all of the land that Smith could encircle in one day on a bull. Richard Smith chose to ride the bull on the longest day of the year - to enable him to ride longer "in one day". The land he acquired in this way is said to approximate the town's current location. A statue of Smith's bull, known as Whisper, stands at the fork of Jericho Turnpike and St. Johnland Road. Smithtown was originally known as "Smithfield".

The Town of Smithtown includes the incorporated villages of Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue, and Village of the Branch. It also includes many unincorporated hamlets such as Commack, Fort Salonga, Hauppauge, Kings Park, Smithtown and St. James.

Former notable residents of Smithtown include Craig Biggio, Bob Costas, Melissa Joan Hart, Kevin James, Lori Loughlin and many more.
